Being a top ballkid requires much more than just throwing and catching skills. If you can follow these simple guidelines throughout the week, you will do a great job on court, make it farther in the tournament, and have a great time!

A GOOD BALLKID...
always serves the player first
Whether you are on the server’s end or not, the first thing to do after a point is look at the player to see if they request a ball.
hustles for every ball
Every time you run to a ball or to a position, it is essential to run as fast as possible. The players are ready to start playing, so don’t keep them waiting!
is virtually invisible on court
There are a lot of eyes watching the match. They want to see the tennis, so don’t give them a reason to watch you! Running quietly, standing still at the back, and not holding up play will ensure your invisibility!
is never late for a shift
Keeping someone on the court after their shift is over is unfair and unnecessary. To make sure you’re not late head out to your court when one of the players gets to four games.
respects the fans, volunteers, and site
It is a privilege to work at the tournament. Being helpful to fans, mindful around other volunteers, and keeping the site safe and clean is one of our biggest priorities.
pitches in when needed
Remember, we’re here to help the tournament in any way we can. That means serving the players on court, providing matches with balls and towels, and helping dry the courts during rain delays. When we help out, the tournament runs much better!
